How do we lose weight without changing our diet? Whether we like to admit it or not, dieting can be incredibly frustrating, overwhelming and exhausting. Nobody does it for pleasure; there are lots of diet plans available in the marketplace and many of these diets involve food restrictions, calorie counting, and pre-packaged foods filled with all sorts of chemicals and artificial ingredients. Believe it or not, there’s no need for someone to turn to a drastic diet plan to get back in shape. It’s all about diversifying your meals and working out. Here are some more useful guidelines you might want to consider.
Mediterranean foods slims you down
Mediterranean food can be extremely healthy for your mind and body. Because it is based on foods that plant-based, the body gets all the necessary vitamins and minerals required to stay energized. Mayo Clinic explains that a Mediterranean diet has the potential of keeping the heart healthy too. It consists of including a lot of whole grains, fruits, veggies, nuts and legumes into your daily regimen. Your daily butter can be replaced by olive oil, and instead of salt you can use herbs and spices to add flavor to the food.
Focus on foods that are rich in antioxidants, such as berries, strawberries, and blueberries, and soon enough Mediterranean eating will become part of your daily eating plan. You will enjoy it! Every now and then allow yourself a little treat, and those extra pounds you had a few months back will start vanishing.
Eat less every 4 hours
Eating small meals more frequently can be an efficient weight loss strategy. Nutritionists explain that this can be possible because your body is kept satisfied during the day. It won’t have the time to feel hungry, which automatically means that you won’t be tempted to munch on all kinds of unhealthy snacks. Make sure you stop eating for good after 8 pm. The whole system needs a break, especially your digestive system. Keep drinking water as much as you want though, and in extreme circumstances it is okay to have something light, like a low-fat yogurt and a banana.
After a meal your body will feel satisfied for about 3-4 hours. Then it’s blood sugar levels will start dropping. Everything you had 3-4 hours earlier has been digested. If you don’t have any food in 5 hours your blood sugar levels will plummet. This means you’ll be starving and you’ll be tempted to have everything at hand, including junk food and sweets. To avoid this from happening, make sure to include a healthy, consistent breakfast into your diet. Keep eating every 4 hours and make sure to include lots of veggies, lean protein, grains and fruits into your meals.
This may seem unusual but slow eating can help you shed pounds. When food is consumed at a fast pace, the brain doesn’t have time to catch up with the thing your stomach is doing. Overeating is installed as well as weight gain. Proper meals must not be taken in front of a TV; many experts recommend turning off distracting, eating at a dining table and enjoying the food. Allow at least 30 minutes for a meal; chew properly, drink water and always stop eating before you feel that you’re reaching saturation.
Eat everything you want in moderation
Adhering to a healthy diet to get back in shape is essential. However, as human beings we often have needs and cravings we can’t control. Instead of resorting to drastic measures and finish up a whole McDonald’s menu in less than 20 minutes, you should allow your body to have whatever it wants any time of the day. The secret is to eat everything you want without gaining weight is moderation. Two cups of ice cream or a slice of pizza won’t kill you.
Don’t get the wrong idea though as this doesn’t mean eating bad food daily. At first it will be excruciating to have just one slice and not eat a whole pizza. In time you will get used to it, and eventually your body won’t even recognize that crazing you once had for chocolate or fizzy drinks. Someone who wants to lose weight without dieting should eat as clean as possible. Exceptions are allowed of course; and last but not least, for a toned body you might want to include a workout routine into you regimen too.
